METRIDIUM FIELDS

The Metridium Fields is a nice dive site near the Breakwater.  You can either kick out through the kelp or visit this site by boat which is a lot easier.  Average depth is between 50-70ft and as the name suggests, there are a number of white metridium sea anemones on the rocks.  Amongst the anemones, there often lurks octopus, crabs, nudibraches, and the ever present otters.

Directions: Heading south on Hwy 1: Once you hit Monterey, take the SECOND Del Monte Ave Exit, it says "To Monterey and Pacific Grove". Stay on Del Monte Ave until you go through the tunnel. Immediately after the tunnel, get in the right lane. Take the next right, and an immediate right again (at the sign that says "to San Carlos Beach").   Use the stairs to the west of the main stairs the classes are using.
