BREAKWATER
The Breakwater is the most popular dive site in Monterey Bay. On some weekends there can be 20+ classes occupying the expansive grass above the dive site.
Directions: Heading south on Hwy 1: Once you hit Monterey, take the SECOND Del Monte Ave Exit, it says "To Monterey and Pacific Grove". Stay on Del Monte Ave until you go through the tunnel. Immediately after the tunnel, get in the right lane. Take the next right, and an immediate right again (at the sign that says "to San Carlos Beach").
Look for our large white tent in the grass near the back, by the metered parking. If you get there early, back into one of these sites as it makes gear handling much easier! Speaking of getting there earlier, plan on arriving before 7 if it is a nice weekend. These lots fill FAST! If the metered parking is full, the lot above it should be your next stop.
Places to Stay: Monterey has a wide assortment of hotels, motels, and bed and breakfast's. Check here for descriptions, etc... We also have a 'secret' camping spot that is 10 minutes from The Breakwater and costs $20 a night. Send us an email for directions and confidentiality agreement. :) Note: Monterey hotels fill up fast on the weekends! Reservations are definitely required. Once Monterey is booked, start expanding your search to places like Carmel, Salinas, and elsewhere.
The Dive Site: Here are some pictures just to get you comfortable with the dive site, meeting place, etc... Glenn's Aquarius 2 Dive Shop is located right on The Breakwater and is a convenient place to get your tanks filled after class on Saturday.
Easy entry and exit:
Back in and set up your gear in the grass. Our tent will be set up. Remember: Pay for parking! It's a $20 ticket if you don't.
